Al formular las bienaventuranzas, Mateo, a diferencia de Lucas, se preocupa de trazar los rasgos que han de caracterizar a los seguidores de Jesús. De ahí la importancia que tienen para nosotros en estos tiempos en que la Iglesia ha de ir encontrando su estilo cristiano de estar en medio de una sociedad secularizada.
No es posible proponer la Buena Noticia de Jesús de cualquier forma. El Evangelio sólo se difunde desde actitudes evangélicas. Las bienaventuranzas nos indican el espíritu que ha de inspirar la actuación de la Iglesia mientras peregrina hacia el Padre. Las hemos de escuchar en actitud de conversión personal y comunitaria. Sólo así hemos de caminar hacia el futuro.
Dichosa la Iglesia "pobre de espíritu" y de corazón sencillo, que actúa sin prepotencia ni arrogancia, sin riquezas ni esplendor, sostenida por la autoridad humilde de Jesús. De ella es el reino de Dios.
Dichosa la Iglesia que "llora" con los que lloran y sufre al ser despojada de privilegios y poder, pues podrá compartir mejor la suerte de los perdedores y también el destino de Jesús. Un día será consolada por Dios.
Dichosa la Iglesia que renuncia a imponerse por la fuerza, la coacción o el sometimiento, practicando siempre la mansedumbre de su Maestro y Señor. Heredará un día la tierra prometida.
Dichosa la Iglesia que tiene "hambre y sed de justicia" dentro de sí misma y en el mundo entero, pues buscará su propia conversión y trabajará por una vida más justa y digna para todos, empezando por los últimos. Su anhelo será saciado por Dios.
Dichosa la Iglesia compasiva que renuncia al rigorismo y prefiere la misericordia antes que los sacrificios, pues acogerá a los pecadores y no les ocultará la Buena Noticia de Jesús. Ella alcanzará de Dios misericordia.
Dichosa la Iglesia de "corazón limpio" y conducta transparente, que no encubre sus pecados ni promueve el secretismo o la ambigüedad, pues caminará en la verdad de Jesús. Un día verá a Dios.
Dichosa la Iglesia que "trabaja por la paz" y lucha contra las guerras, que aúna los corazones y siembra concordia, pues contagiará la paz de Jesús que el mundo no puede dar. Ella será hija de Dios.
Dichosa la Iglesia que sufre hostilidad y persecución a causa de la justicia, sin rehuir el martirio, pues sabrá llorar con las víctimas y conocerá la cruz de Jesús. De ella es el reino de Dios.
La sociedad actual necesita conocer comunidades cristianas marcadas por este espíritu de las bienaventuranzas. Sólo una Iglesia evangélica tiene autoridad y credibilidad para mostrar el rostro de Jesús a los hombres y mujeres de hoy.

In making the Beatitudes, Matthew, unlike Lucas, is concerned to trace the traits that characterize the followers of Jesus.Hence the importance for us in these times when the Church has to be finding their way of being Christian in the midst of a secular society.
It is not possible to give the Good News of Jesus in any way. The Gospel spreads only from evangelical attitudes. The Beatitudes show us the spirit that should inspire the action of the Church as a pilgrim to the Father. We have to listen in an attitude of personal and communal conversion. Only then we move into the future.
Blessed is the Church "poor in spirit" and simple heart, which acts without arrogance or pride, without wealth or splendor, supported by the authority of Jesus humble. It is the kingdom of God.
Blessed is the Church that "crying" with those who weep and suffer by being deprived of privileges and power, can better share the fate of the losers and the fate of Jesus. One day will be comforted by God.
Blessed is the church that renounces imposed by force, coercion or submission, always practicing the meekness of his Master and Lord. One day inherit the promised land.
Blessed is the church that has "hunger and thirst for justice" within itself and in the world, they seek their own conversion and work for a just and dignified life for all, beginning with the last. Your desire will be satisfied by God.
Blessed is the church that renounces compassionate rigor and prefer mercy rather than sacrifice, as will welcome sinners and do not hide the Good News of Jesus. She will reach God's mercy.

Blessed is the church suffering hostility and persecution for justice, not avoid martyrdom, mourn for the victims know and learn about the cross of Jesus. It is the kingdom of God.
Today's society needs to know Christian communities marked by the spirit of the Beatitudes. Only one evangelical church has the authority and credibility to show the face of Jesus to men and women of today.
